Microsoft announced that Erich Gamma, former distinguished engineer at IBM and a leader in creating IBM’s Jazz next-generation collaborative development environment, has joined Microsoft’s Visual Studio team as a Microsoft Distinguished Engineer. Gamma is considered the co-father of the Jazz project and was the technical lead of Rational Team Concert. He brought teams together across the application life cycle and led Rational’s Collaborative Lifecycle Management effort.
Symform, founded by two former Microsoft employees, has brought in veteran chief executive Matthew Schiltz to run the Seattle-based startup. Schiltz becomes Symform’s first outside CEO, a year after the company landed $4 million in new venture capital from Longworth Venture Partners and OVP Venture, part of an overall funding of $5.5 million. He was formerly President and Chief Executive Officer at DocuSign. Schiltz said he was being brought in to help Symform execute on its strategic plan. “I’ve seen this playbook before, and I am really excited about building another killer company,” stated Schiltz.
