Welcome to the launch of SandHill.com: an online destination for software veterans, executives, professionals and enthusiasts alike.

Like many of you, I got started in the software business more than 20 years ago. I have seen the highs and lows: the vibrant 1980s, the stall of the early 1990s, the Bubble, its burst, and now, the coming renaissance?? Like some of you, I have checked out now and again - but something always brings me back. Perhaps it is the challenge: like many CEOs said in our recent survey, we’re in the software business to “solve customers problems”.

So why a new Web site and newsletter? I’ve spent the past few years in your shoes: surfing the Web to find a place where I can get all the information I need about the enterprise software industry: trends, issues, metrics, people, and so on. But I could find no such virtual space. Our Sand Hill Group Enterprise and Software conferences can create this focused, stimulating atmosphere for a handful of days each year but I wanted to have access to that pool of peers and insight all year long.

That’s when I decided that we should launch SandHill.com, where enterprise software experts can go for their daily fix of strategic business information – be it news, insight, analysis or community.

SandHill.com will give you the pertinent news, opinions from leaders and visionaries, informative and actionable research and industry metrics. But most of all, we want to add a personality to the industry. We will create forums for you to discuss and debate issues and network both virtually and physically. We will provide you resources to find jobs, events and professional services. And we will also be introducing interesting people who are the basis for this industry and its unique eco-system. In short, we want SandHill.com to reflect the pulse of the enterprise software industry! That’s why we named our weekly electronic newsletter, Software Pulse: It will keep you informed of new content on SandHill.com and keep us in touch on a regular basis.

We hope you’ll find SandHill.com useful, insightful and entertaining – but we’re just starting out. So please send us your suggestions and ideas. Tell us what you like and what you don’t – and what we should be doing, or doing differently. We’d love to hear ideas about what topics we should cover, trends we should research and services we should provide. And also let us know about the interesting people you encounter in the software business so we can share their story with the community at large.
